Sean Daunt was courageous in running an awesome marathon in the Melbourne Marathon in October 2014. Sean ran a 2.53, a fantastic effort for a man who has transformed his body from Rugby League player to distance runner. Sean is a former South Sydney player.
33 years old, and I have been training with Sean for 1 year.
I attend sessions only.
In 12 months I’ve gone from struggling to run 3k around the block to run 42k, something I never imagined possible before starting with Sean. Each race has been a debut so thankfully no time to beat, but have no doubt with a second year training those times will be bettered.
It’s definitely a challenge as we’re always on the go but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Whether its running, swimming or surfing it’s nice to spend time together doing things we both enjoy.
I didn’t quite make the professional level but played a lot of junior reps. That’s quite a tough question to compare as 50% of Rugby League training is spent in the gym – heavy lifting to get stronger and more explosive. I think the biggest comparison would be in the mental toughness side of things. Playing till the 80th minute is just like running through the 42nd kilometre or taking another hit up when you’re tired is like pushing out an extra rep in training.
I would definitely recommend Sean as a coach, after taking part in his training programs I’ve developed a passion for running, made huge improvements in myself and witnessed many others do likewise.
