The Melbourne Pack Kids Running Group is held at 4.30pm each Tuesday and Thursday in Edithvale. Each Tuesday the sessions are held on the magnificent crushed gravel trails and grass cross country circuits around the pristine local wetlands. Each Thursday the sessions are held on one of Melbourne’s premier grass athletics tracks, with it’s cushioned, smooth surface.
The Kids running group is all inclusive, regardless of ability level or goals. Ages of the kids range from 5-18. Parents are most welcome to join in, as are other adult runners. Adult runners are the ultimate role models for the juniors. Conversely, the juniors keep the adults on their toes and help the oldies to maintain a youthful perspective on their sport.
The training includes technique and form drills, sprinting, intervals, fartlek, pace judgement, breathing, cross country running and handicap races with prizes on offer. Anyone can win these prizes as runners are given head starts according to current form. Not only does the training prepare the runners for track, road and cross country races, it is ideal to prepare and sustain team sports participants in both pre season and during season periods.
Individualised training programs are also on offer for those that wish to prepare for specific events. They are emailed to runners in 4 week blocks. They revolve around targeting races with build ups, tapers, race plans and recovery periods. They can also involve mid term and long term planning.
Runners are also welcome to join all Melbourne Packers on the Sunday group runs in Edithvale, Braeside Park, Lysterfield Lake Park and other locations around Melbourne.
