What a fantastic weekend of running at Melbourne Pack. The
big news of today came from the Tokyo marathon, where Dion
Finocchiaro ran a three minute PB in recording 2.21.41. It
was freezing cold, pouring rain and to make matters worse
Dion had a massive fall at the 20km mark. He smashed both
knees and was in Gaga Land for several seconds. He got up,
continued on belting out his even pace and stormed home. He
was able to pass countless runners in the second half of
this arduous event. We always say it Dion – you are a
machine!
Benny Skurka was the superstar of the day at the Chelsea
Bicentennial ParkRun. Not only did Ben notch up his one
hundredth Parkrun, but he rocketed home with a PB in what
only can be described as shocking conditions. Close to 30°
temperatures and a howling northerly wind made it horrendous
for the 5K competitors. Ben ignored those outside
influences, focused on the job at hand and was the tough man
of the day. How good was his 21.36 in those conditions!
A dozen or so Melbourne Packers really enjoyed a long run on
the beautiful Red Hill Rail Trail this morning. This was
followed by a catch up at the cafe only 100m from the
start/finish. Some superstars from the group were recovering
from their efforts by
drinking Funky Monkey milkshakes. Stay tuned for more fun
Sunday morning locations.
