Melbourne Running Group (Edithvale and Parkdale).
Melbourne Pack is a unique running club for runners of all levels in Melbourne’s south. Olympic level coach Sean Williams is at the helm as a full time coach. This amazing running club in Melbourne is the only club having a coach of this level accessible to recreational level runners around the clock. This running group in Melbourne consists of a broad range of runners: from veterans aged 70+ to kids; from absolute beginners working on running their first 1km non-stop to experienced, faster runners finishing at the pointy end of races. General information about this running group in Melbourne and the training is as follows:
Tuesday: 9.30am and 5.00pm- (pm session start time can vary depending on season). Meet for warm up at Memorial Oval (Edithvale Common next to the bowling club), Edithvale Rd, Edithvale. We meet at the car park by the trail and oval. Includes warm-up, stretching, drills, strides, speed work, cool-down. The sessions include running reps between 200m and 2km, time trials and windsprints on the track plus threshold runs and fartlek on a nearby trail. Many of the sessions will help you with pace judgment for races.
Wednesday: 6.00am- Meet for warm up at running track at Dolomore Reserve, Queens St, Parkdale. Includes warm up jog, stretching, drills, strides, speed work and cool-down. The sessions include running reps between 200m and 2km, time trials, windsprints, threshold runs and fartlek. This session could well be done as a once-a-week workout and fit around a personalised training plan you would receive once a month. That plan could include easy runs, long run distance and paces and other harder runs/speed sessions, plus strength work and cross training as well. You could still try our Saturday hill sessions and Sunday long runs.
Thursday: 9.30am and 5.00pm- (pm session start time can vary depending on season). Meet for warm up at running track/velodrome at Edithvale ( Edithvale Recreation Reserve on Edithvale Rd), plus remain on the track for the session. Includes warm-up, stretching, drills, strides, speed work, cool-down. The sessions include running reps between 200m and 2km, time trials and windsprints on the track plus threshold runs and fartlek on a nearby trail. Many of the sessions will help you with pace judgment for races.
Saturday: 8.00am. Locations vary. Mainly hill sessions at Dingley and time trials at Edithvale and Seaford.
Sunday: 8.00am. We have over around a dozen different long run routes we choose from. Routes can include: a) from Edithvale up the bay trail towards Mentone; b) Edithvale up the trail around Patterson River; c) Braeside Park- for some loops around this beautiful park. d) Lysterfield Park trails- a big variety of courses in this beautiful bushland; e) Edithvale up the trail and around Waterways and back; f) Langarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve trails; g) Red Hill trails; h) Black Rock to Brighton coastal trails; i) Emerald to Cockatoo trails; j) Warby trail from Mt Evelyn. k) Two Bays trail
The long run meeting place and route will be announced each week on the MELBOURNE PACK RUNNING Facebook page. Distance options range from 7km- 30km+

General information about this running group in Melbourne and the training is as follows:

Sunday: 7.30am. Usually meet at the running track at Edithvale, then run on trails with different routes each week. Routes include Coastal runs past Mordialloc, a loop around Patterson River, plus lengths of the local Long Beach trail. Once every month we meet at Braeside Park (just 5 minutes from Edithvale) for some loops around this beautiful park. The long run meeting place and route will be announced each week on the MELBOURNE PACK RUNNING Facebook page. Distance options range from 7km- 30km+
Includes warm-up, stretching, drills, strides, speed work, cool-down. The sessions include running reps between 200m and 2km, time trials and windsprints on the track plus threshold runs and fartlek on a nearby trail. Many of the sessions will help you with pace judgment for races. On Sunday we simply go for a group run.
Cost is $60 per month, including a customized training program (GEARED TO YOUR PACE LEVEL) and all coaching correspondence (i.e. up to 3 sessions per week or 12 sessions per month), including meeting in person, phone calls and emails. If you can’t make the groups I can coach you purely online for $60 a month, which includes a monthly plan, as many emails as you want, plus phone calls.
I would expect you to send me a training report at least once weekly- quite a deal more regularly if you prefer. You would need to give me data on your training and race results, giving information such as time and distance of each run, repetition, fartlek, time trial and hill split times and recovery times, plus how you felt on various days. The data you send me could be as detailed as you wish; remember some details are better than none at all.

The Melbourne Pack Running Club in Melbourne uses tried and tested training methods implemented by a world class coach. Benefits of joining include regular contact up to 7 days a week with local full time coach Sean Williams. Most Australian running coaches are part time their either work a full time job and coach on the side or they are still elite runners (their top priority when at that level of the sport) and coach on the side. Sean is there for his runners of all levels all the time.
Running Group in Melbourne
The Melbourne Pack Running Group in Melbourne trains on world class distance running courses. The grass track at Edithvale is extremely cushioning and well groomed, meaning runner’s risk of injury is kept to a minimum when performing their speed work. The crushed gravel trails that this running group in Melbourne train on are undoubtedly the best in Australia. Trails such as The Town Common loop, Braeside Park, Longbeach trail, Mordialloc Creek trail and the Patterson River trail are smooth as silk and extremely scenic.
This running group in Melbourne is very sociable and friendly. They regularly get together for coffee after sessions and runs, plus have BBQs and parties year round. The Braeside Park Sunday runs held every 4 weeks or so are renowned for having nice brunches on offer in a lovely picnic area in a bushland setting at the end of the run on Sunday morning. Travelling together to local, country, national and even international races has become the norm for Melbourne Packers. Great camaraderie is gained and fun to be had.
